Wow.
When Marvel revealed the latest line-up of movies going into Phase 3 today, it made my spine tingle with excitement. One exciting film after another after another (with maybe the exception of Ant Man) all leading up to Avengers: Infinity War. This has never been done in movie history – a string of independent movies with different characters, different tenors, and different styles all forming one gigantic story spanning over a decade of filmmaking. What’s been more amazing is that it has been hit after hit after hit. Not a dud in the bunch. The stories are exciting, the actors are talented, and the special effects are amazing. So when I first heard they were making Ant Man there was a part of me that said, “What?” But if they could turn a little known title called Guardians of the Galaxy into a summer blockbuster, I guess they’ve earned some street cred.
Other than the Avengers reveal, the biggest news was probably Captain America: Civil War. On the original presentation it said, Captain America: Serpent Society but that was just a cover for the true title. For Marvel fans, they know that Civil War harkens back to the popular mini-series of the same title. That comic series revolved around the Superhero Registration Act and pitted friend against friend. This movie promises to do the same. How closely they will follow the original storyline remains to be seen but according to Variety online, Marvel is planning to reboot Civil War in 2015 leading into the new movie. Already we know that Robert Downey Jr. will be reprising his role as Iron Man in the film and will introduce Chadwick Boseman as Black Panther (yay!). Should be an amazing movie. And coming up the next year will be Black Panther’s own movie.
