Award Winning Weiners at Award Weiners – Disney Foodie Spotlight

Looking for a quick bite in Disney California Adventure? If you like hot dogs, you can’t go wrong at Award Weiners. As it says on the sign it really is the “Best Weiner in a Supporting Roll.” This little quick service spot just down the main thoroughfare of Hollywood Land. Rarely a long line, it’s a great place to stop when you want a quiet little respite from the hustle and bustle of the park. There are seats right around the corner from the trolley in the wall where you order your meal and it’s tucked just far enough out of the way as to usually not draw tons of people. Best feature of all? The dogs are GOOD!

The menu is extremely simple. Basically there are five hot dogs to choose from: the classic plain hot dog, Chili Cheese Dog, Sicilian Dog, Barbeque Hot Link, and Vegetarian Portobello-Mushroom Philly Dog. All of them come with your choice of sliced apples or chips. The kids menu is simple – Kids Turkey Dog. They also have a Kids Power Pack with lots of healthy choices in it but its more like a big healthy snack than a meal. Their featured treat until March 18th celebrates Zootopia and are the Banana Corn Dogs. If I liked bananas, I would totally want to order these! They look so good. You get two mini banana corn dogs, sprinkled with powdered sugar and two dipping sauces – chocolate and red “paw-psicle” (raspberry).

As with every Disney dining place we’ve gone to, there are definitely gluten-free options here which is great. I got my Sicilian Sausage Dog with a gluten-free bun and as with other quick service places, they served it separately from the other food. It was SUCH a great tasting dog. It reminded me of a meatball sub, but because it wasn’t made with gluten, I could eat it. Most meatballs are made with bread as a binder and so I can’t normally enjoy one, but this one had all the flavor and punch of a good meatball sub without it. It was a mild Italian sausage in a bun, covered with a tangy, thick, and tasty pizza sauce and then covered with shredded mozzarella cheese. Every bite was so good, I was sad when I got to the end.

The only downside is the limited menu. You can’t get fries or anything besides a hot dog. No corn dogs here or any other variation of a weiner dish and unlike the Corner Cafe in Disneyland, you can’t even order chili on the side. Despite that, the dogs are terrific and if you’re in the mood for one, you can’t go wrong by coming to this easy to find, easy to order, quick service place. Yum.
