Maybe too hidden?
It’s hard to find a nice, quiet place to have a small bite to eat when you’re at a theme park. Most people are fine with that. It’s what you expect when you’re at a place where attendance is always in the tens of thousands. But if you want a quick bite to eat in a calm, quiet spot just stop by White Water Snacks located in The Grand Californian Hotel. It’s accessible to anyone but out of the way enough that most people don’t seem to find their way there. In fact, I wouldn’t have known about it except for my buddy Lance who suggested we give it a try.

Location: The Grand Californian Hotel, Disneyland Resort
Type: Quick service
Specialty: Carnitas Nachos
Cost: $8 to $12 for lunch or dinner / $6 to $8 for breakfast
Craig’s Favorite: Just the fact it’s a nice quiet cozy place with good food

White Water Snacks is a great place to refuel AND stock up for the day or the night. Located in a remote part of The Grand Californian, this cozy spot has a pretty large selection of food to choose from. In addition to the items on the quick service menu, there are tons of snacks (hence the name) you can take with you or find a quiet spot and munch on. They have baked goods from the bakery, the have packaged snacks, and they have condiments and other items for your room (like Jif peanut butter, Heinz ketchup, and Folgers coffee with Mr. Coffee filters).
But they also have a small but varied quick service menu that provides a nice complete meal. With only eight items on the lunch and dinner menu, they find a way to cover your needs (they do have a limited breakfast menu which includes a breakfast biscuit, Mickey waffle, and breakfast burrito as well as a few other items). I tried the Charbroiled Chicken Sandwich on gluten-free bun which had some good flavor. The addition of the grilled Ortega chile really made a difference in giving it an added taste. My friend Lance really enjoyed the personal pepperoni pizza and thought the crust was nice and crisp while maintaining gooey cheese. The menu is simple but it was a nice place to relax without feeling the swell of people you usually have in the parks.
If you want to find a cozy spot to just get a quick meal without the crowds, head over to White Water Snacks, but hurry! This location will be closing temporarily for some refurbishment and will reopen later in the year. Who knows what it will be like or offer once it reopens? You may not find a gourmet menu, but they offer solid food, good prices, and a relaxing place to rest your feet. Oh, and I’ve read that even though its not on the menu, they make a pretty mean Carnitas Nachos! Just ask.
Carnitas Nachos! I’ve been by this place so many times but never ate any food there and never realized how much stuff they have. I’m going to add this to my list of places to eat at next time!
Let me know how you like it!
I eat here at least twice every time we stay at the Grand Californian. I always get the breakfast burrito, it’s legit delicious.
