Ink Drops introduced as a new mechanic could add a new dimension to the game.
Hyperia City is a solid set that will likely be known more for the introduction of ink drops than it will for the Coco characters it introduces to the Lorcana Trading Card Game (or TCG for short). The newest set from the folks at Ravensburger introduces Miguel, Dante, Hector, and even the dreaded Ernesto de la Cruz. And while these folks are featured in the set, Lorcana brings back characters from other sets. Notably we get a lot more from Big Hero 6, Zootopia, A Goofy Movie, Aristocats, and Tale Spin. A few characters like Belle, Shere Khan, and Cinderella get some nice cards in this set and overall, Ravensburger did a great job of smattering different cards to build up different archetypes.
As usual, they also gave us a great variety of products to interact with the game. The 2-player starter deck is great for beginners or if you just like the special promos included in the set including Baymax and Madam Mim. The Illumineer’s Trove is a wonderful gift package especially with the holidays right around the corner. It includes 8 packs of cards, a special promo card, a nice sturdy box to hold your collection, dividers to organize by color, dice, tokens, and a counter. Plus the box is beautifully decorated with an image of Miguel. And for those of you who just are trying to get that special enchanted, epic, or (God willing) an iconic the booster box is probably your best bet with 24 packs of booster fun included.

The two new mechanics introduced this set are ink drops and adventurous. Ink Drops are tokens that you can use one time for extra ink. That bonus can be useful when you have a high-powered card you’re dying to get out there. The other new mechanic is Adventurous which induces a glimmer (character) to quest for lore instead of anything else on your turn. In the case of Mickey Mouse, Best in Town, questing also brings ink drops, but both for you and your opponent. Both ink drops and Adventurous will make you think differently about your decks!

Overall, this is a fun set. The enchanted and iconic cards are beautiful as always and when yo compare them to older sets, they outshine them by a lot. For me, I’m a huge Ariel fan so I want that one, but Aurora and Belle are stellar cards. Which ones are you looking for?
Thank you to Ravensburger for supplying these items for review. All evaluations are my own and have not been paid for by anyone. If you’d like to see more cards from the set just follow this link.
