LEGO announced today they would be delving into a new area of Disney licensing – Disney theme parks! Based on Cinderella’s castle in Walt Disney World, this newest set scheduled to come out September 1st is the first Expert level Disney set at more than 4000 pieces! Designed to be built by children 16 years of age and older, this highly detailed set standing at over two feet high comes with five minifigures – Mickey, Minnie, Donald, Daisy, and Tinker Bell.
The Disney Castle set (71040) features a five-story tower and a four-story main building filled with iconic elements from many Disney films including a “glass” slipper from Cinderella, rose in case with candelabra (Beauty and the Beast), spinning wheel (Sleeping Beauty), two frogs (Princess and the Frog), magic carpet and lamp (Aladdin), and even a mop, wizard’s hat, and spell book for Mickey (Fantasia). My favorite part is a fireworks launcher paying homage to the regular fireworks display guests experience at the park.

LEGO and Disney have long had a wonderful partnership. Pluto, Mickey Mouse’s dog, was the first licensed product LEGO ever sold. No precise date has been found for its release, but this wooden pull toy first surfaced in the 1950’s. Disney renewed its relationship with LEGO in 1999 with Winnie the Pooh and the Mickey Mouse line of traditional LEGO products geared toward young children. They have since expanded their relationship with sets based on many of their movies including Toy Story, Pirates of the Carribean, and Cars.

But recently, Disney and LEGO have been producing sets at a furious pace. Following in the Friends line of LEGO sets, LEGO released a Disney Princess line that has proved to be extremely popular. They have since released a set of Disney minifigures featuring many fan favorites including Mickey, Minnie, Buzz Lightyear, Stitch, and Maleficent. Now as they delve into the theme park arena, what sets are you hoping to see next? I know I can’t wait for this one to come out!

As a person who has been taking trips to Walt Disney World for as long as I can remember, I can honestly say that I have been waiting for this to happen for years! Now my dream is coming true!!!!
I am so saving up all my money for this when it is released! I may not have the room for it yer, but I will once I get a place of my own.
I’m actually hoping to see more LEGO sets centered around the disney rides and parks! Like Star Tours! One of my all-time favorite rides! I would love to have that!
