Reservations for the new rooms beginning March 15 for DVC members.
The most sought after vacation property in the Disney family isn’t Aulani with its pristine white beaches and beautiful sunsets. It isn’t the grandeur of the Grand Floridian or even the new chic Riviera Resort. The most sought after, difficult-to-obtain Disney Vacation Club property belongs to the Villas at the Grand Californian Hotel at Disneyland. It is nearly impossible to book a room there unless you hold one of the most coveted deeds to the property which were sold out long ago. Disney does have a wait list, but like the infamous wait list for Club 33 you can’t get on it. The list is so long they’ve stopped taking names.
Technically, if you own any DVC property you have the right to reserve one of these cherished rooms. However, the priority 11-month window for Grand Californian owners coupled with the small number of villas available virtually blocks anyone else from booking one. It’s no surprise then DVC owners (and potential owners) have been crying out for another property to open up in California, and while rumors and proposals have floated around for ages the property on the Disneyland Hotel property is moving forward. The Annual Shareholders report for 2021 came out and confirmed the property is expected to open in 2023.

Disney has been in the process of constructing the new facility, but it was unknown initially if the City of Anaheim (which put the kibosh on a 700-room planned new hotel) would allow it. When the plans were approved, the resort was in the midst of the pandemic and with supply chain issues happening across the country, it wasn’t clear if the new structure would be done in time to meet its scheduled target date in 2023. However, in the shareholder’s report, it was confirmed that it is still slated for a 2023 opening. It will add 350 new DVC rooms of varying styles, mostly studios (309) with only 39 suites and two grand villas. Still, that adds a whole slew of options for the DVC community and welcome news to West Coast fans!
There’s no better time to consider a Disney Vacation Club membership, especially with the new tower opening soon at the Disneyland Hotel!
UPDATE: Reservations for a September opening will be happening on March 15, 2023 for current DVC members, followed by March 16 for Magic Key Holders and March 17 for the general public.
